Question:
Extended Warranty for Sager notebook
Hi everyone
Do you think it is worth getting extra 2 years of the warranty if I do not have any kids (no need for ADP) or will be taking VERY good care of my laptop.
I was considering buying new Core Due Sager from PCTourque as they were offering the best and cheapest warranty, but now I have learned that they will no longer be selling laptops.
So now I am planning on getting it from Powernotebooks or discountlaptops.
Discountlaptops has a 2 year warranty for $100 and Powernotebooks have Phillips for $360, which I heards it sucks.
So my dilemma is: I really want to buy from powernotebooks, as a a lot of people have amazing experience with them and rating back it up. But I am kinda hesitant with that warranty.
Do any of you kind people have any regrents for not getting extended warranty after you got your Sager laptop? or have had bad experince with one.
I was thinking that since this is Sager and not Dell or HP - their built quality should be much better and so I would not need a warranty

I bought my Sager from PowerNotebooks last October. Zero problems, it has run flawlessly from the moment I took it out of the box. If something is going to go wrong with the notebook, it's most likely going to happen within the first six months; 1 year is fine in my opinion.

Ok.
1. I am not a big fan of extended warranties, nor are most consumers. Generally speaking only 10-15% of all laptop buyers get the extended warranty.
2. Any warranty is only as good as the company standing behind it. While we too have read about and experienced bad service from the Philips Magnavox warranty service providers, you only hear about them, and you don't hear about the good experiences...they just happen and everyone is happy. The unhappy ones (those that get escalated to management) represent less than 2% of all claims filed.
3. Probably the best news is that you will see that Sager is going to begin offering their own extended warranty by the end of this month, and since Sager will be providing the warranty repairs you will not have to go through a 3rd party provider which is were the trouble seems to lie. Since you go right back to Sager it is much easier to hold them accountable than it is to hold some 3rd party accountable. In addition, the biggest problem with 3rd party warranty providers is they can't get the necessary parts. This will not be a problem with Sager.
4. The pricing will be similar to what Philips Magnavox is charging now.
5. Remember my comment in #2 above...Any warranty is only as good as the company standing behind it. Now, if Philips Magnavox and Sager charge about the same for an extended warranty, and then along comes another 3rd party company that charges a whole lot less (DL and others don't provide these warranties, they are provided by a 3rd party company that many times is not even mentioned)...well...ever heard of "you get what you pay for" or "when it looks too good to be true, it usually is"? Now, if I was paying good money for a warranty I would want to investigate who that warranty company is and know something about their financial capability. When I find out they are a small private company with no public financial information available, and they are charging way below what other companies charge that are large and known, well...it just looks too good to be true to me.

I did not look at it from that perspective, which makes sense.
But you know where I am coming from. Having to spend $2500 on the laptop, you would want to consider all options. But I guess I am not going to get warranty then.

Even if you don't get a warranty for it.. definitely add it to your homeowners insurance, or your parents. If you live in an apartment, you should have renters insurance which is the same thing.

I got the full 3 yr Warranty AND Accidental Damage Policy just because I never know what will happn.
Also I have a 3yr old at home ... and you know how that goes ...
I have paid an extended warranty on a much less expensive product before, so I use that as my reasoning behind getting a Warranty for this big purchase.
Kinda like when I bought my wife her wedding ring.
I made sure that thing is protected if anything happens.
(Come to think about it now, I could have possibly bought a laptop earlier and a Super Uber Gaming Desktop with the works if I didn't get married ... )

Extended warranties and ADP, imo and experience, is a must. Every notebook i have owned has had one thing replaced or another. Now so far all my notebooks until this year were Dells (Inspiron 7000, 7500 and 8200) and the list includes 2 lcds, keyboards, cdrws and they don't all fall within the 1 yr warranty period.
Now, lcds if its not under warrranty are one of the most expensive parts to replace. So far with my 9750 i have had one optical and a mobo replacement already, luckily under the Sager 1 yr warranty. Do I think my 9750 will be fine for the next few years: who knows ?
Look at it this other way, you b*tch and whine as to why you paid so much for insurance when its sunshine all day and then you're glad you had it when your house is being washed away by floods.
Given that my dells were all under completecare, i am glad i got it. i don't need to worry after the 1st yr and hoping and praying that everything will be fine and nothing will go wrong after that - and it has. I also travel with my notebook for business including overseas and inter-state so more reasons to have it.
It is encouraging to hear Sager is or will soon be offering extended warranties.

All for extended warranties here. On some products, thankfully, the warranty was never needed. But when it is needed, it sure is a relief. As someone already posted, it's just like insurance--and with insurance, too, you sometimes get some loser policies with some loser outfits. I consider warranty a part of pricing the purchase. Can you afford to pay now for service you might need later (which can come out cheaper if you need service more than once)? Or will you be able to afford to pay later for service you need then, out of warranty?
