Duo Core with 19fangui
Is it worth it? I've heard reports that people have gotten it to work, but some people also have gotten things like broken fans? Should i use it? Was the broken fan only a rare exception?

It IS worth it. Also, the dude that had a broken fan had a broken fan, not a i9kfangui issue.

I wished I had this little software 2yrs ago when my Inspiron 4150 original mobo fried, yes there was smoke and burnt smell coming out of the poor thing. There are 2 fans in my notebook - the intake at the bottom and the exhaust at the back. The back fan died - it died because it got too hot and melted a circuit which over time led to more heat and more circuit death until the mobo fried.
D/Hell wanted to charged me $750 to replace the mobo and 75 for labor. I told them mofos to take their mobos and stick it you know where because they knew full well it's their $hitty design that caused this. I got a replacement mobo in Hong Kong for all in $150 and has lasted me for 1.5yrs
If I had this program earlier I would have been able to monitor the notebooks various temps and control both fans at will. Now it does not get as hot and it's wonderful little program.

Like Acolyte said, my broken fan was just that - a broken fan. I'm going to load it on my new laptop when I get it. The only thing it won't do is accurately communicate with the ACPI temperature monitors, so the temps you see can be off by quite a bit. However, they are rarely beyond 5-8C off.
Assuming your fans aren't defective, you should enjoy the cooling full-time fans long enough for the Core Duo-compatible i9k to be released. It's your choice. :D

awesome! thanks for telling me! So if i keep the fans on constantly, maybe slow speed, they shouldnt break right? The miniscule risk of them breaking is worth taking for the drop of temp from about 80ish to 70ish? am i right?

Should they break at all? Im confused here.. cause just wondering now makes it sound like if you use this app to turn your fans on, it will mess something up?
