how hard to switch out the dvd drive?
since I have two e1705s on hand, can anyone tell me how hard it is to replace the dvd drive?

according to the manual it looks effortless...one screw. so is the NEC drive "better" than the sony?

It is extremely effortless. It is just the one screw and then I kind of slides out. It is even easier than replacing RAM. FYI, the HD is also very easy to take out. :)

I'm all done! Took about 60 seconds to switch out. What I gleaned from a quick search of the forum is that the Sony drive may have problems. So I put the NEC in the system I'm keeping and sending the Sony back to Dell in the e1705 with the nvidia 7800 I'm returning.
Am hoping newegg gets the hitachi 7200rpm 100gb hard drive back in stock soon...looks to be $175 well spent...

Uh oh. I have a Sony, so far no problems. a 7200 rpm 100GB notebook harddrive would be sweet! That is easy to do too, except there are two screws instead of one! :)

I put a Seagate 100GB 7200RPM drive in my E1505, and got it from Newegg. I also got from Newegg a Pioneer SLOT LOAD DVD burner...once you use a slot load, you never go back! :D
So far, i'm happy!

Interestingly, newegg does not list ANY 100GB 7200RPM SATA notebook drives right now. Not even out-of-stock...none. Weird.:eek:

If I just have the cd burner in my E1505 can I add the Pioneer DVD burner?

Pioneer DVR-K06. You would remove the CD burner and install the Pioneer in it's place. From Newegg, the DVD burner does not come with software, so FYI...
I just like slot load because there always seems to be something in the way of the drawer of a traditional drive that I have to relocate!
