What did you have running at the time? Did you have any AIM programs running? How about Anti-virus and Anti-Spyware? Those could cause that.

After a fresh reformat you s hould be at around 30 processes. Perhaps when you reformated you somehow installed some of dells junk-ware too? What kind of programs are running the the background?

Re: 60+ Processes AFTER reformat?
Well, this is note exactly after I reinstalled xp; it's after I reinstalled and downloaded all my basic programs. (Antivirus, firewall, peerguardian, etc). I looked up some of the processes and a lot of them have to do with the dell drivers ( bluetooth, intel pro, quickset). Is anyone else running this many after installing all this stuff?

Re: 60+ Processes AFTER reformat?
fwiw....
After a Windows MCE SP2 reinstall w/o any drivers, etc had 25 processes
After installing Dell drivers/utilities for my hardware configuration [from Dell download/CD] had 39 processes.
So that kind of gives you ROM on the 'basic' number of processes. Given the applications you've added on top of that, it seems about right.

I noticed after I installed PhotoShop, it added a "Adobe Gamma Loader.exe" file in the startup menu, what is this? Shall I remove it or just leave it alone?

Here you go and I agree, with MCE2005 and Dell drivers for wifi and all that.. its always seeming to be a higher number.
That guide should help.

Re: 60+ Processes AFTER reformat?
Already did most of the stuff on that guide; checked out all my startup processes/services on google and none of them seem to be spyware/malware/junkware. I'm just used to the 30 or so processes on my old laptop...
