Question:
Dell XPS M2010... what is it...?
C|net did a review of the M2010 and I can't figure out what it is. Who's it targeted at? What's it for? Does anybody have it here?
Thanks,
~ Brett

Basically it's just an expensive all in one machine. But the price is much to high to attract possible Desktop replacement or other AIO buyers. I can't really quite figure out "who" it's targeted at either. I guess it's just another proof of concept that they let slip through to production. I sure wouldn't bet on this thing being around for long though.

I just looked at the M2010 and a couple of mini-review, but I get the gist that this thing basically screams "I'm a DTR!!!". I'd say its a cross between a desktop and a notebook, meant to give the ultimate multimedia experience. The thing is desktop in the way it's physically made, but also the way you use it (i.e. wireless external keyboard), and the fact it doesn't have a battery. It's also notebook in the fact that it can easily be packed up and moved from place to place (its technically not a notebook, as a real notebook would enable you to use it almost anywhere, even on your lap), and that it can't be upgraded easily (<--based on what I've seen).

so basically you pay a premium to lose the upgrade ability of a desktop, and the use anywhere feature of a laptop, sounds like a winner....

I think it is aimed at Gamers that like desktops, but figure they are too hard to move around. I used to go to lan parties all the time and people hated bringing their desktops. On that note...I am sure the 2010 will be more upgradable than a notebook...but that is just speculation.

Just waiting to see if anyone actually buys this beast (cost wise) of a machine. I think that $4,500 is a price only a few could muster.

It's good that it came out, though. I feel like detachable parts are the wave of the future for notebooks. Not necessarily 20" notebooks that weigh freakin' 18 lbs, but detachable screens and keyboards nonetheless.

I had made a topic asking if somebody was buying it a couple of days ago and nobody replied they had.

I'd say that it's a good all-in-one desktop system, like the iMac. Who's it targeted at? People with cash to burn who don't want an Apple or people who need something easily portable (as far as taking it in the car on holiday, for example) but with a large screen and a mass of entertainment features, as well as eye-capturing design.

An iMac isn't $4500.
A few people will buy it because its "cool" but I can't see it lasting. Its a waste of money. I can configure a Shuttle machine with an LCD and have greater portability and the ability to upgrade in the future.
