What settings do you have it on, and what are you working on? I know on my sz, it sounds like the fan is always on.

Good to hear that Sony did well by you. After reading so many "Sony support sucks" posts I was a little nervous ordering the SZ160 but I have to say it is the most enjoyable laptop I have owned and I've had quite a few including 4 Powerbooks, Acer Ferrari 4500 and Dell M140. One of the things I like about it is how whisper quiet it is and to top it off it runs cool too, not like the MacBook Pro and MacBook both of which get extremely hot.

I know on my sz, it sounds like the fan is always on. interestingly it is the same exact setting as when i sent it in. adaptive plugged in and fan is greyed out under battery in the power options. there is no way that my old sound levels were normal. it's perfect now. i'm not doing processor intensive stuff like wow. right now i'm working on my itunes library

Under light use mine is pretty quiet but still noticeable. When playing a long session of WoW, the fan is pretty loud and the bottom gets uncomfortably hot. I don't think I'd want the fan to be quiet while gaming.

Re: ... and they fixed the sz fan noise
I found that when I turned my computer on this morning, there was no fan noise at all. I was very surprised because this was the first time I've noticed it to be quiet. Then after about 5-10 minutes of web surfing, the fan kicked on. It's still fairly quiet so I think the fan is on the lowest speed. However, now the fan won't turn back off to the "silent" mode. I'm guessing it has a very low temperature threshold that kicks it on, and keeps it on with even very light use. I'm currently on stamina mode with the CPU control on battery life.
Does your fan turn on and off depending on use?

Does your fan turn on and off depending on use? all fans are adaptive the question is how adaptive. my unfixed sz was loud the new one is super quiet. my point in the post is that people with loud sz's should not accept it as normal

Re: ... and they fixed the sz fan noise
you can change the fan settings but it has to be in a parallel with the processor speed
