Question:
Acer 5670 Bluetooth problems XP Pro "No Device"
I've just bought an aspire 6570, wiped off XP home (after burning the backup DVD), everything's OK, I've downloaded all of the drivers from the Acer website, I had problems finding the Bluetooth drivers though.
Finally found them on the backup DVD, installed them OK, but I can't turn on the bluetooth from the switch on the front of the lappy.
The wireless lan turns on and off ok - I get the "wireless Lan Enabled" and "Wireless Lan Disabled" messages fine. but when I try and turn on the bluetooth device, it says "No Device"
There's nothing in the bios relating to Bluetooth - but I don't understand why it's not working - has anyone else had this problem (wish I'd tested it on XP home before re-installing Pro).
I'm thinking it may be a hardware problem - but would appreciate any thoughts on other avenues before contacting Acer..
:)
Thanks,

Have you tried installing the actual Bluetooth drivers from Acer's websites or ran Windows Update?
You've got your choice of Acer's WIDCOMM Bluetooth stack or Microsoft's stack. To use Microsoft's stack, download the Bluetooth driver from Windows update. Otherwise, Acer's Bluetooth drivers are available from multiple locations on the Internet.

Thanks k3l0,
Yes I installed the ones from the Acer website - it complained no end during the installation - then I found the ones on the backup DVD so uninstalled the WIDCOMM pack from Acer and ran it from the DVD.
Installation went OK, and didn't complain as much as before...
Don't see anything in Windows Update relating to Bluetooth - there's certainly nothing under the optional hardware updates...
Any other ideas?
Cheers! :)

This a bit strange, usually the BT install moans if it doesn't find a relevant BT device.
Maybe a bit of a silly thought, but if you are running ePowermanagement you could look if BT is actually enabled in your current power profile (R-click on the ePM icon and have a look)
If Widcomm BT installed correctly you should have a dark blue BT icon in the lower right taksbar (light blue would indicate MS BT). rightclick and try to configure it. Otherwise use the dark blue icon in control panel.

If it says No Device, then you don't have BT. It means that the circuitry/hardware is not a feature of that particular flavor of 5670 series. My son has a 1642 that has a BT button on the front but has no BT hardware. Now why, you might ask, would they put a button there with no BT installed. Probably because you can get it via an optional PC card or Express card 34.

the Bluetooth button only controls the internal USB bluetooth device, if it exists.
and... if you've got any Bluetooth drivers installed for the device already, you probably won't see anything in Windows Update. It may appear if you go into Device Manager and delete the devices (thereby uninstalling the drivers).
It's also possible that the driver is no longer available. I installed Vista last week and didn't get the driver in Windows Update. I have been running the same Windows installation since January, and it was available then.
You'll want to make sure that the Bluetooth is turned ON when you install the drivers.

Hi! lazylinepainter i have the same problem, but i read about something yesterday. Although bt doesn't work now, it used to work nice before i installed the sevice pack 2 from windows updates...
At the time i didn't try it , but yesterday i bought a headset and i'm really disapointed
and i'm not sure if the service pack is the main reason.
I'll really appreciate if u find out and share with us.

Probably it is SP2 that caused BT to disappear by installing its own BT stack.
Although the MS BT stack works in most cases (according to some it'smore stable with a BT mouse) it does not have the headset and audio gateway profiles you probably want/need.
You could try to install the Widcomm drivers from Acer. Essentially any recent package will do since just about any device's VID and PID are in the btwusb.inf file (most recent is 5.0.1.1500 for the Aspire 9800) look at ftp.acer-euro.com/notebook under aspire_9800/drivers (about 70Mb). After that BT should work for your headset (be sure you know how to make it discoverable).
After installing it over the MS BT stack you may be left with two icons in control panel (both a light and a dark blue), but it still works.
Since the Widcomm drivers are not signed you may have to set driver signing on 'ignore' temporarily.
If not, you could try to find the VID/PID for your device and adapt the BTWusb.inf accordingly (this may require some more research on the web).
