I can't believe it...

Question:
I can't believe it...
I guess when it rains it pours (literally). We had a storm and now my mobo is gone. To make matters worse I'm on the waiting list and have paid for a thus far non-existent w3j. I don't think I can go without a computer for a month. I don't know what to do. To make matters worse I had 8 1/2 pages of a paper done thats due Friday. Hopefully I'll have some luck putting my HD in a friends computer or I'm f'd bad.
Stuff happens I guess. I just hope I can get my paper back and get through the rest of this week and finals next week. I will worry about the computer and the w3j once I get the paper behind me. I don't really want to build a new desktop right now. I can't justify the expense with Vista/dx 10 coming out within the year.

well, if you're in the states, you could get a cheap hp from a place like costco (6-month return policy) or something and then return it once you get your w3j....

LOL. I thought about doing the purchase/return thing. But I don't wanna be that guy. Maybe Justin can just call Mr. Asus in Fremont and tell him to call Mr. Asus in Taiwan and tell him I need my w3j asap. I'm sure they'll be understanding and comply.

That sucks sorry to hear about your bad luck. I would buy a pc and return it later. but then again i have about 8 pcs in the house not counting enough parts to build three more i dont think i could end up in your position. Unless my house burnt down. "knocks on wood" oh wait i have a laptop in my car ok i dont need the house :)

If you're going to try to RMA the motherboard (might as well try), make sure you don't try to boot off that hard drive from another computer or you'll screw up the HAL information and will have to format and reinstall if you want to try to use that hard drive again when you get the RMA back. Just install it as a slave (I assume that's what you were going to do anyway - but just thought I should mention it just in case).
If you get an exact replacement for the motherboard (or at least close) then you should be able to just fire the hard drive back in and be back exactly where you were.

Why don't you ask them (ASUS) to loan you a notebook?

Don't the schools have computers/laptops anymore? What about your local library...
