Question:
HP screen - what quality ?
Hi,
Guys I'd like to know what do you think about quality of HP notebook screens.
What notebook brand I should choose to get the best 15.4 matte screen ?
(1680x1050 res and higher is OK)
Thanks ;)

Re: HP screen - what quality ?
The best matte screen is the ThinkPad FlexView. It is offered on the 15" T series SXGA+ and UXGA+ screens. It is not widescreen though. I thought the 15.4" screen on the Z61m was very good, but not as good as the FlexView.

Re: HP screen - what quality ?
Matte is becoming less and less these days. I have a glossy one, and after being used to a matte Toshiba Satellite M30, it seemed weird at first.
But once you get used to it, the glossy is a really sweet screen. Surface-wise, it seems like glass, which is really cool :D
My resolution is 1280x800, not the highest, but it does the job.

Re: HP screen - what quality ?
I'm really concerned about the quality of the screen. I think it's independent if it's a matte or glossy surface. I'm talking about light leakages, blured dark corners, smudges after quick dragging windows on the desktop. I've seen them on HP nc8220 WSXGA+
Do you think it was a problem of that particular screen or it's common ?
I don't want to buy a notebook for 2000$ with a low quality screen ;(
Guys can you describe me your problems or lack of them on your machines (screens), please ?

The Compal HEL80 has an excellent WSXGA+ matte screen; very clear and vibrant. See this thread:

HP offers high resolution matte screens in its business laptops but I'm afraid there have been some complaints about those screens. Not all models but some have received bad marks (nx6*** for example) for their screens.
