Question:
E1505 LCD Question - Brand
I got the information about the E1505 that is about to be shipped. Under the information page in Dell's support section, it says this for LCD:
LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 15.4WSXGA+, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC., GLARE WIDE VIEWING ANGLE, LENGTH/LONG
What's the brand for that? STDS. Association? What does that mean?
Is it gonna b good?

Re: E1505 LCD Question - Brand
That's a reference to VESA, the standards body that defines standard computer resolutions such as XGA, SXGA, etc. It's not the manufacturer.

Re: E1505 LCD Question - Brand
Mine doesn't even report a manufacturer or model number when examined with Everest or any other EDID-aware tool. The EDID string is blank. Guess I won't know who manufactured the LCD unless I disassemble the laptop and remove the LCD -- and I'm not doing that!

skrie, by googling my order part number, and the lcd reported back to me using those tools, I was able to figure out atleast who made it.

Re: E1505 LCD Question - Brand
Found it. The part number is CF264, and it's a Samsung screen. It's... meh. Definitely inferior to the LCDs on my previous laptops (Gateway 7508GX and HP ZT3000). Lots of light leakage at the bottom edge and a bit of what is referred to as the "sparklies". I don't play games and rarely watch videos on my laptop, so it shouldn't bother me too much.
