Re: Aspire versus TravelMate
I would like to know this as well.
Seems like the TM's and Aspire's are built very similiarly.
My guess (going off of what I have heard) is that the Aspire line is more targeted to mainstream/home pc users while the Travelmate line is more aimed at business users.

Thanks. How do you like your Acer? Any issues with their service??

Re: Aspire versus TravelMate
I haven't even had to deal with their service, the machine has been perfect.
It seems that a lot of the problems people have with Acer machines result from their lack of being able to do research and easily fix things themselves.
For example, the biggest issue I had read about with the 8204 was the screen being dim. I noticed this when I first booted up the notebook, however there was a new BIOS available from Acer that was very easy to find and rectified the issue easily.
My dad has also had an Acer notebook from work that had some quirks, but we were able to fix them by just looking around the internet a little.
If you have decent technological knowledge, I would highly reccomend a brand like Acer. Many people see these over-hyped "issues" and just buy a Dell or something comparable because they know that if anything is off at all, that can just go running to tech support mindlessly. If you don't mind doing a little work to tweak your computer, I believe that Acer is a top of the line brand.

I've contacted a few times just for minor questions, and no issues whatsoever with their customer service. I wouldn't hesitate to call them if no one else can give me an answer to a specific problem.

Re: Aspire versus TravelMate
Acer ftw.
Travelmate is supposibly a better build, for business users who will be moving arround alot. Acer support if very good, quick, polite and very helpful. If anything goes wrong your looking at a 5 Day Turnarround which includes shipping to them and back. Very good indeedy.
And if using tech support and its a delicate and complicated issue they have ~9 minutes to answer the quirey and help you. 9 minutes because its the average time they have to help someone. But never spent more then 3 minutes on the phone with them.

Is there actually an 800 number to call if you really need support? I have been told there wasn't (everything by email).

Re: Aspire versus TravelMate
TravelMate was originally a product of Texas Instruments. In the early 90's Acer acquired TI's TravelMate to boost their market position. Travelmate then becomes Acer's high end range of products while Aspire remains their mass consumer product range.
Many other company maintains similar offerings as well. Dell have Lattitude and Inspiron range. Toshiba traditionally have Tecra and Satellite range. Lenovo have the prestigious Thinkpad and their budget 3000 series.

Thanks.
CompUSA has the Aspire 5672 for $999 after rebates. Do you have any opinion on how good the Aspire is? I will be using it for personal and business (consulting) uses.
Thanks.
