Question:
HEL80 Intel PROSet/Wireless
Why is it when I try to connect to a wireless hot spot, I can, but I can't open a webpage. Firefox tells me I need to connect and it opens up my dial up connection. I was trying to test my wireless at Carribou Coffee, but I ended up sitting there for an hour trying to open Yahoo but to no avail. What step have I missed?
Oh when I look under my network connections, it says on the Intel software that I am connected, but under the control panel it isnt. Could it be a problem with a firewall or something?
First time using wireless, and my own computer.

does your firewall have an exception for firefox? that might be causing the problem. it could also be configuration of firefox. does IE work? check connection settings for firefox under tools-options-connection settings set to autodetect proxy settings.

Re: HEL80 Intel PROSet/Wireless
In IE goto Tools/Internet Options/Connections. Make sure that the radio button next to "Never Dial a Connection" is hightlighted.
Next click on the LAN Settings button located in the lower right hand corner of the dialog box. If there is a check mark in the box labled "Automatically detect settings" remove it. Click "Ok" and "Ok" again.
Under the control panel you state that you are not connected but the icon in your system tray says you are... Am I right? Are you using the Intel software or the Windows Wireless Zero Configuration Service for your wireless configuration?

I fixed it. For some reason it wouldnt work when it was bridged, so I removed that and it works with no flaws.
