Question:
"Sleave" case for 5760
Hey guys
Glad to hear that so many people are enjoying their 5760. Aside from some monitor issues (bleached out, though I think I just need to adjust the settings) I"m loving mine.
I was curious if anyone knows of any laptop cases or "sleaves" that will fit the 5760. When I had my macbook pro I had an Incase neopreane sleave http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL....8.25.7.11.6.3. If I can say one thing for apple, they sure do make a visually sexy product.
I was looking for some kind of protective sleave because I carry my 5760 in my backpack, and while I don't toss it around and the backpack is of good construction, I'd prefer some extra padding available if I can get it.

I just got my 5760 yesterday, its f*ing amazing! Runs latest games with no hesitation. Loving it so far. Ill post some reviews and thoughts about it later. But for now I want to protect it. Now it came with a carrying case, but the case is not that well padded, or protects it from bumps. So i was thinking of adding a layer or hard material between the bag and the laptop. Now I looked into dense hard foam, pcboards, plexyglass. Foam is like a one time use thing where if u bump it, the foam dents and is done. pcboards are heavy esp modern ones with like 10 layers on it. So is even the thin plexyglass. I can always go with cavlar, lol, bullet proof it, jk, i want something hard and light and thin, oh also cheap and readily avaliable. Now i know thats hard to find, but anyone have any suggestions. I am sure other ppl would be interested too, if they dont want to buy another bag or does not own another bag.

Wow, what are the odds someone is looking for the same thing as me (or close at least).
I'm looking for a laptop sleeve, and since I hadn't gotten any replies to my post yet, I went looking myself. While I"m not using the case that came with the 5760, I do need extra padding for it when it's in my backpack. Seems like you pretty much want the same thing.
Shoreline Neoprene Laptop Jacket looks like it'll fit the bill nicely. Size seems right except that it's only 1.75" thick, and the 5760 is supposed to be 1.8 at it's thickest. I doubt this would be a problem though since these cases are kinda stretchy and the taper (front to back) on the 5760 would probably allow enough room.
If that doesn't look good to you, you can look at some of the other padding options at eBags.
Hopefully this works for you, if you find something different please post it, as I may be interested in it too.

If you are looking for great bags (although expensive), then take a look at WaterField designs:

yeah see i dont want to go out and buy a new bag even though its probably gonna be a bit better and cost about the same as my "mod" to the bag, but its just cooler to DIY. So anyone else have ideas for thin strong plates?

I as well am looking for a sleeve for my 5760. I have a nice Marware sleeve for my 12in Ibook.. Fits it perfect but they only sell items for Apple stuff. They sell a 17in sleeve but it wont fit the 5760 in its form. I was looking at this one on compusa http://www.compusa.com/products/prod..._Laptop_Sleeve
But the demsions of a 5760 are 1.8"x15.6"x11.5" and the sleeve is 2.0''x16.0''x11.4'' . Not an exact fit but allmost. Im not sure if the "Proprietary, shimmering Charcoal nylon" will budge a litte like neoprene will.
Found this sleeve on ecost for a 17'' Case Logic neoprene sleeve.

Its size is 2.0" x15.5" x 12.75" Its also .1 smaller, but its neoprene.. So it should budge...

If so any recommendations on vertical ones? Those waterfield sleaves that Chaz mentioned look really nice, but the flap or simple latch seems a little weak to secure the laptop. Does anyone who has one able to comment on the security of the closure? whether the latch or flap?

Like i said in my previous postings, I have a Ibook G4 12'' and use that Marware neoprene case. You put it in horizontal, and zips up. I use a targus Backpack and use the main pouch for my Sager 8790, Its simular in size to the 5760 but overall the 5760 is larger. Both fit in my backpack but with my new 5760 I want to protect both from scratching and minor drops n bumps.
Now... having said that.. did it matter if the zipper on the Marware neoprene case for my Ibook was on the side "horizontal" vs the top "Vertical" ? No. All i cared was that there was no open gaps and the laptop was sealed. The Sleeve Chaz spoke of, the Waterfield sleeves dont come with a standard flap, so they are not sealed. You can pay to have the option to have a flap on the sleeve but for an additional 15 bucks. The sleeve it self costs 42 bucks it self ... 42+15=57 bucks... for a sleeve... :| altho in fairness... they say the Waterfield sleeve is "Cushioned with high-grade neoprene and wrapped in a ballistic nylon shell" This shell may provide additional protection for your laptop vs the standard Neoprene sleeve.
Had this waterfield sleeve had a Zipper closure insdead of a "flap" I would look more into it, for others the issue of flap vs zipper is moot.
So to narrow down an answer to your question... I dont think it matters one way or another if the opening on the sleeve is Horizontal or Vertical.. you still have to pull the sleeve out of the backpack before you take the laptop Out of the sleeve. Thats my 2cents.
