HEL80 Monitor Question
Heya - I'm looking into buying an HEL80 (or possibly an S96J) real soon and I had a few questions about the LCD that the HEL80 comes with.
What's the response time on the WXGA (glossy) and the WSXGA+ (matte) LCDs you can get on them? Is it fast enough that there won't be ghosting or anything, or is that a problem? Also, which one is more recommended? I'm going to be playing games (though not much like FEAR or Quake 4) and I'm going to have 2gb of RAM, so which one do you think will end up looking better?

Well i have the glossy screen and i was playing half life 2 before and it looked beautiful but yeah the matte is meant to be a better quality screen but not by much:)

I was wondering about the specifications for the various lcd's offered with the Compal Hel80 - can anyone supply a link or info? One thing I'm specifically interested in are the H/V viewing angles for the WSXGA+.
Also I've noticed a "backorder July" notice posted with the HEL80 on powernotebooks site. Is this still standing?

The LCD specs have not been published yet, so there is no way to get them unless someone wants to take it apart and get the manufacturer and part number.
Both the PowerPro L 8:15 and Crown P 15:2 are in stock and shipping daily. Where did you see the "backorder July"? Let me know and I will fix it. (Have you refreshed your page recently?)

steam reports my HEL80's WSXGA screen (1680x1050) as manufactured by seiko/epson... so thats a start.

Well, without detailed specifications which can often be deceiving anyway...what is your impression of the viewing angle (side to side and top to bottom), brightness (turn it all the way up) and contrast ratio?

Ok, here are the official specs for the Samsung model LTN154P1-L02 that is the WSXGA+ screen (1680x1050 16:10 Aspect ratio) on the HEL80.
Brightness - 185 cd/m2 (nits)
Contrast ratio - 300
Viewing angles - 130 degrees horizontal/100 degrees vertical
Response time - 25ms
