Yes, generally, 512 MB graphics RAM is too much. Most cards, even some high end ones, cannot take full advantage of the memory, and they cannot use it efficiently. in the future, more and more graphics memory will be needed, but at present, theres no need for more than about 256 MB. Even that is quite alot for most games.

What exactly are you getting at here? 256MB cards are perfectly fine for gaming; 512MB has a small advantage on only the highest-end of cards. Check the questionnaire section of the GPU guide for some more basic info.

Im aware that the GPU is an important player is this, but all I want to know is if 512 MB is better than 256MB memory on graphics cards.
