Question:
How to turn WEP off?

My router has wireless which I didnt need with my desktop so I set the WEP up so no one could steal my internet. Well now I have the laptop and will be getting rid of the desktop so I want to make the laptop the main computer.

You will have to turn WEP Encryption off in the wireless routers settings. Turn on UPnP device discovery, and go into the routers admin device page.

Re: How to turn WEP off?
Thanks man! I went thru the router's stuff the other day and missed it but got it now. I am also trying to set up a network between the two to let me transfer pictures and what not over to the new notebook. I am having problems with that as well. Should I try to do it from Vista to XP? I tried to set it up on the XP Desktop and then when I was going through it on the notebook it got almost done and said there was a problem.

Re: How to turn WEP off?
Why would you want to turn it off? It's better to leave it on (or better yet, use WPA instead of WEP). That way people can't "steal" your Internet, and even better, they can't intercept the information you send over it, like credit card numbers, emails and so on. The easiest way to transfer things I've found is to put both computers in the same workgroup, and then just browse to them. Make sure you have the correct username and password (sometimes it's a blank password on new machines), and you should be able to just copy whatever you want over.

I agree. Turning off the WEP is not a good idea.

Yeah I ended up not doing that.
Pitabred, I am having trouble getting a network to work. And now I can't even get the damn "Easy" Transfer Cable to work!!!
