Question:
15 seconds to play an MP3 on Vista Home Premium
anyone having this problem? Whether I use winamp or wmp it literally takes 15 secs from when i double click the file to when the file starts playing out of the speakers. Thats insane. I even tried smaller mp3 files but no difference.

Can't say I have had that problem. When I play an mp3 file with wmp, it opens almost instantly.

Yeh i open them instantly aswell.
Is your Hard Drive healthy? Try defraging ur drive. Not sure if that will help tho.
Is your pc fast otherwise?

well the laptop is only 1 month so the hard drive better be healthy haha are you guys both using Vista though like me? Under xp pro sp2 on same laptop my mp3s always loaded up fast

as i told you go back to xp...
i used vista before... though i don't like it's overall performance,i have no problem at all playing music.. it won't take 15 secs to play music...
when did this happen? since your fresh install?

No. Winamp works just fine here running Vista Ultimate x86 on my Averatec... That's very odd...
I'd try it with WMP and other media players to see if you can isolate the problem. Maybe its just an issue of reinstalling winamp?

No problems here on Ultimate. WMP opens immediately when I double-click an audio file.

Do you have any virus scanners set to scan EVERY file on open? That happened to my aunt's computer, it'd sit forever scanning every Word file when it opened. Check your virus scanner's settings.
