Question:
Always losing connection...
I have cable internet in the living room, with a Linksys 54GS wireless router. We have 2 wireless laptops connected to it. The problem i am having is that this internet will randomly stop responding. It doesn't have any consistent trend or anything, just randomly throughout the day, sometimes a few times a day, sometimes a few times each hour, the connection will stop working and i have to go to the living room, unplug the router and plug it back in. Has anyone heard of this issue before?

Re: Always losing connection...
This happens ALL the time with cox cable Internet service back home in San Diego. So far, I haven't figured out how to resolve it. It's not a router thing, since I have gone through three routers in the past.
I spoke with the cox technicians, most of which don't have a clue about this issue, but I suspect that it has to do with how cable is shared across all cable subscribers in the vicinity, as opposed to ISDN/DSL which is dedicated per home. Maybe when the traffic is high, you just get dumped from the service???
Routers that have a reset switch will do the same thing as un-plugging and replugging the power in. If you come up with any real solutions, it would be good if you could post it! Good luck.

If you are using channel 6 or 11, try changing it on the router to 3. That's usually a pretty quiet channel.

Re: Always losing connection...
I have a cable internet with time warner. The cable modem is in the bedroom and also the Linksys wireless G router. the distance to the living room and kitchen where I normally connect to the internet with laptop is approximately 50ft.
I experienced the same thing, my wireless connection suddenly stop, have to resort to wire connection as my back up. I relocated our microwave oven and turned off our chordless phone but still the same.

It's in your router's setup menu.

You might have to change what channel it is looking for on your laptop if you don't broadcast your SSID.
