Question:
Bootloader Install Help
I finally got Kubuntu 7.04 Herd 5 to install onto one of my external hard drives, but when it tried to install GRUB, it failed. If I try to boot from the drive, I get Error 15. Can someone help me get a bootloader installed, so I can get into this setup? Should I just go through the installer again? I tried to get GRUB online, and I can't figure it all out. Thanks.

Hmm... weird. Probably best to scrap it all and try it again, I suppose.

Re: Bootloader Install Help
How did you partition this drive? Do you think you'd be able to get the contents of the /boot/grub/menu.lst file and post them here?
EDIT: Does it ask you which OS to boot before failing out like that?
Error 15 indicates that some file cannot be located, which can mean it's trying to open the wrong partition, or that one or more of the entries in menu.lst is incorrect.
If I knew those two things, your partition scheme and what's in your menu.lst file now, I could probably help you manually boot up Linux from the GRUB command line and then modify your menu.lst file so it'll boot automatically.

I scraped it last night and got it to work. It just didn't want to put grub on the external disk. no big deal.
