"Destination Folder Access Denied"

Question:
"Destination Folder Access Denied"
I'm trying to change the name of a folder I created in Computer > Local Disk ( C : ). However, when I try to change the name and press enter, I get this message "Destination Folder Acess Denied" and "You need permission to perform this action". What? I mean, I made this folder, so should I be able to change the name?
Does it have something to do with the user accounts? Is there any way to check I actually am the administrator on my own computer? Is there any security setting I can turn off so I can rename my folder?

Re: "Destination Folder Access Denied"
How many different accounts do you have on your computer?
If there's only one then that one is the adminstrator account.
You can check under Users in the control panel to make sure.
Are you using anything that's in that folder when you try to rename it?

Re: "Destination Folder Access Denied"
Ok, I looked under the user profiles and I'm the only one there listed as Administrator. I'm not using anything in that folder when I'm trying to re-name it. I don't know what to do to fix this. I've already disabled UAC controls under Administrative Tools, but that doesn't do anything.

I'm not sure why you can't change it.
Are you using Windows XP or Vista (or another OS)?
Try starting your computer in Safe Mode and chaning the name of the folder then.

I'm using Vista. It's strange. It will let me delete the folder, but not change the name.

Re: "Destination Folder Access Denied"
If you really want to be the "system administrator", wich is not recommended, search these forums for "how to enable the hidden administrator" account.
It sounds like you copied a folder from another machine that inherited permissions, I could be wrong.
Can you try right clicking and setting the permissions for that file in the properties, taking ownership with your "limited user admin" account(admin approval mode) before you dig in with the hidden administrator?

Re: "Destination Folder Access Denied"
I did copy it from my previous computer. I no problems then, but it's been shutting me out on Vista. The thing is that on my older computer, I had no special permissions set on this folder, so I don't know why it would have permissions now on Vista.

Re: "Destination Folder Access Denied"
I would boot into safe mode and change the permissions of the folder. If you copied it from another computer, you may find a user name like {655403-234343-343434}. Once you remove all users that don't belong, and then change ownership of the folder and all files contained within to the current user, you should be good to go.
You should be able to change ownership without booting into safe mode, so try that first.

Re: "Destination Folder Access Denied"
Can you help me out with that? To change ownership of the folder first without having to go into Safe Mode.
So, right click, Properties > Security > Advanced > and then what? Or am I in the wrong place?

Re: "Destination Folder Access Denied"
Security -> Advanced -> Owner. Make sure to tick the "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" (or whatever Vista calls it) as well.
