Home network questions.

Question:
Home network questions.
So i recently bought my first lappy along with an xbox 360. Im wanting to connect my PC, Laptop and xbox to the internet, but having a hard time figuring out the best way to connect all three. I would really like to have alll three deviced connected to ahardline opposed to a wi-fi connection, i guess my real question is regarding what equipment to buy. I currently have a DSL Modem that is connected to my PC, when ive used my lappy at home, i just got it, i just take the ethernet out of my PC and plug into my lappy.
If i bought another DSL modem to only use with the xbox would it work or can only 1 dsl modem work per household?
In regards to connection strenght, is a wi-fi connection comparable to a hardline connection? Just really worried that i will have lag while playing on-line games on my lappy.
I have more question but will wait till i get responses. Thanks in advance.

Re: Home network questions.
You can not had a second modem and have it work, unless you are going to pay for 2 services. You need to connect a router. In your case I would look at one of the 8 port routers. You can then add a AP later on if you want wireless. and still have open nic ports for NAS or printer. I would look for a gigabit router in your case. These tend to have lower latency due to there speed.

Re: Home network questions.
well at least i now know what i need.
So now, any suggestions on a router thats good for gaming? would be nice if it was roueter with a built in wi-fi. And it would be even more kick ass if it was a modem it self(just dreamin, but if it exist let me know)
also, for those that use xbox live, is DSL good enouph for it? Ive heard that DSL isint fast enouph and you kicked off alot if thats what your using.
Thanks in advance

The Dlink DGL-4300 is a good choice. Here is a link to SmallNetBuilder router chart.

Re: Home network questions.
If you are gonna get the DGL-4300, you might as well buy the D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router (DIR-655). They are the same price and will not have to upgrade later. I just picked this up the other day and it took me about 15 mins to set everything up and works very well.
