Answer: for a lan game i think you need a router? or mayvbe a cross over cable
Answer: a crossover cable would work to connect any two like devices, i.e. computer to computer, router to router, ...
zx5000 :: 2.4M :: 512 DDR :: 40gb 4200 RPM HD :: 15.4" :: Radeon 9600 Mobilty M10 :: Aquamark3 22,856

Answer: Types of cable: straight-through and crossover
Data is sent and received through specific wires within an Ethernet cable. Depending on the arrangement of its sending and receiving wires, an Ethernet cable is either a "straight-through" type or a "crossover" type. CAT5 and CAT6 cables can be either straight-through or crossover. The following diagram illustrates how to differentiate between the two types.
Straight-through cables are used to connect nearly all Ethernet devices, and are the more common type of cable in a local area network (LAN). For example, you’ll most likely use straight-through cables if you’re using a base station or a switch and connecting your computers into a LAN with a broadband modem.
Crossover cable usage is similar to that of straight-through. Crossover cables are most often used to connect two computers directly to each other, or occasionally to connect a broadband modem directly to a computer. But crossover cables might also be required to connect new networking hardware to a LAN, depending on your current network configuration and the capabilities of your existing hardware.
Answer: as far as expense no more expensive than straight through
for example at newegg.com for 25 ft cross over cat5 ~ $3.50
