Question:
Connecting to Computer.. Problem!
I am absolutely positive there is something wrong with my computer.
I am on a network (dorm) where I usually can connect to other computers and take stuff from their shared folders (aka go to run \\Fred or something like that). Recently I haven't been able to do that. It always brings up the message "\\Fred. No network provider accepted the given path"... this also doesn't work with.. say \\Bob. So I go up to Fred's and do the run > \\bob and it works. So I know its either my connection or my computer.
I am on a hard connection (no wireless), but upstairs there is a wireless network that I used to be able to connect to. But for some reason now I can't. I have tried disabling my real-time virus scanner and windows firewall and nothing has changed. Is there something wrong with my networking drivers? Or is it more serious..

Any networking or configuration changes on your laptop since the last time you were able to connect with Fred and Bob?
Are you all in the same network IP address space (Such as 192.168.0.xxx / Subnet mask 255.255.255.0)?
Are you all in the same network workgroup?

Since I have last connected, I reinstalled my Wireless drivers..
We have same network IP addresses
But we are in different workgroups. Bob and Fred are in home, while I'm in, workgroup. The thing is if I was on Bob's computer I was able to go to My Network Places and on the left hand side there was an option that said "View Workgroup Computers". He was able to click it and it showed all the different work groups, get when I click it on my computer, it just makes that standard "DONG" sound and does nothing.

Do you have File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks enabled on your laptop's network properties?

Can you ping Fred and Bob's IP addresses?

The TCP/IP address of the computer you are connecting to followed by four "Reply from IP Address" messages: This indicates that TCP/IP communication between the two computers is working. Check to determine if the Server service is running on the computer you are trying to reach.

How about if you go to Run... and type in \\Fred or \\Bob and click OK?
Or \\Fred's IP address or \\Bob's IP address?

That's what set me off to this problem in the first place, run \\bob doesn't work, neither does \\ipaddress
