Question:
Freeing up disk space
I have a 60 gig HD and when I checked how much disk space was uses I was surprised to see that almost half of the 51 gigs available were used up. I didnt have very many media files but I did delete what I had to save a few gigs.
I also ran the disk cleanup and another program I got off CNET but when I checked the space available, I only had 16 gigs left as opposed to 24 before!!!!
WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?
If I open up the C drive, hilight all the files and click properties, that is only about 8 gigs so I should have another 43 or so somewhere?. I would like to know where all this space is going and how can I properly clean up all my useless files?

Do you have system restore turned on, well if you do and have left it at the maximum default setting of 12% then right there that is 7.2Gb of hard drive space lost, also consider how much virtual memory is in use for your paging file that could be another 1Gb there.

you could use something like jdiskreport to show you what files are taking up all that space

Thats interesting. I ran that jdiskreport program and it says I have 11 gigs used up on C: drive but when I click on the properties of C: drive, it is showing that 21 gigs are used. Why is this?

Disable hibernate/sleep mode to save up some disk space (I think it's around 2GB if I am not mistaken).

Use CCleaner to clean up some temp files and junk.

Yeah I have basically cleaned out all unnecessary files. I only really have 11 gigs used on C: but it shows that I am using 21 gigs. I am just wondering where this extra space is going? Is it backed up files or something?
