Dell Inspiron 6000 NIC Problem

Question:
Dell Inspiron 6000 NIC Problem
NIC is Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller. Stopped working after a power outage on campus overnight. Cannot restore operation, even though Device Manager says it is working properly. There are NO network connections listed in Control Panel. Have re-installed drivers, no luck. Broadcom Control Suite 2 says "no active Broadcom adapters detected in system". Network setup wizard says the Broadcom device is disconnected. If I ignore the disconnected hardware, and attempt to configure a network connection for the NIC, the wizard responds "An error occurred during configuration of the network...". Even wireless doesn't work - initiating the Intel PROSet/Wireless configuration results in "..was unable to detect a supported wireless adapter..". Under Control Panel, in "Internal NIC Configuration", the dialogue box has a status of "Is NIC On/Off?" with "Current status of your network card: Off" with no option to turn it back on.
It seems like all network hardware is OFF. What else can I try? I am concerned that maybe the power outage burned up the NIC card.

Try disabling the NIC's and power down, then power up and enabling them again to see if they will be detected.
