Deleted Xp, but still shows at start up
I deleted the XP partition but it still asks me to choose it or Vista at start up. How do I delete the XP stuff so it boots directly into Vista?

You have to edit the Master Boot Record.
Just deleting a partition doesn't change what's in the boot record.

Vista comes with some tool or other that lets you change this.
Under XP it was simple, you'd just edit boot.ini to remove the bit referencing the unwanted OS.
With Vista, of course, everything has to be much more secure, and you can't get access to the file unless you use their util for it.

Is there still msconfig in vista? in xp msconfig could fix the bootup menu.

I tried instructions I found:
1. boot from Vista Dvd
2. Click Repair
3.Type bootrec.exe in command prompt.
Command prompt said the command was successful, but then I restarted, and the option for XP was still there.

open control panel, go to system, click advanced, go to system startup and recovery, click edit start options manually. From there just delete where it says "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn" or something similar, but MAKE SURE you delete the proper partition. These instructions are for xp, so if your on vista im not sure how much different it will be.

In Vista it's Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings (left side) > Settings (under Startup and Recovery)
I'm not sure if you can delete it, but you can always select Vista and set the timeout to 0 second.

Though Vista is said to be a new OS, it basically shares the same commands as XP. All that's different, I notice, is it manages memory better and of course the Alero eye candy. But with all the extras and better memory management the speed isn't that much faster and sometimes is slower than XP!
