How well do games run on a V5250 game?

Question:
How well do games run on a V5250 game?
I will be getting a Thinkpad T60p soon, but am wondering how well games will run on the ATI Mobility FireGL V5250. Now I know there are threads about this from a while ago, but I want to know if any of you have hands on experience with this card. It is a card optimized for CAD performance, so I don't expect it to do REALLY good. Any information would be great. Thanks! :)

why don't you buy dell precision m90? it has quadro fx 2500 and games runs pretty well on it.

The V5250 is essentially an X1700 so it should run games very well. Unless you plan on doing rendering or other graphics work, I wouldn't recommend a workstation-class GPU. Check out the Asus V1JP as a good alternative.
Or, you may consider waiting a month for the new ThinkPad T61:

Well, the thing is that the Thinkpad will be bought through a laptop program from the school I will be attending. They offer a really good price and all the specs fit me well, I just wanted to know if the card was half decent.
I read through the forum somewhere about the v5250 being an x1700, and even found a guide on converting the drivers.
If the T61 comes in a 15.4" model with about the same price, I may go ahead and buy that laptop, although the 3 year warranty through my school is very enticing. Thanks for your advice though!

I am pretty sure it will run games better then an x1400. Maybe not as good as the X1700 but not much worse too. If you can install normal x1700 drivers i would think that they would be pretty much the same. I am not sure if the v5250 might be clocked lower but it should run most games at x1600 level or a bit below.

I would think it would run games as well as an X1600 So you will be able to run any current game.

It'll run games absolutely fine; in fact, it'll run games close to X1700/X1600 speeds (keep in mind the X1700 is only a die shrink of the X1600, there is no real significant performance difference the X1700 and X1600, the major difference is that the X1700 uses less energy).
People have run Oblivion, CSS, and FEAR on the T60p with the FireGL v5250 and reported no problems. Considering on some games like Oblivion and FEAR, the X1700 can't be cranked up to max settings without killing FPS, having a v5250 instead of the X1700 won't really be that much of a liability.

Thanx for the info guys, if Santa Rosa doesn't work out for me, I will end up getting the T60p.
