Question:
Can't overclock/underclock gf 8600m gs
Specs:
Asus F3sv, windows xp pro, geforce 8600m gs, laptopvideo2go 158.27 driver, 2gb of ram
Situation:
I have tried ntune, rivatuner and atitool but none of these software work in changing the core/memory clock speeds, instead the clock speeds keep resetting to the low factory values of 500/400.. but the card is rated at 600/700 according to nvidia official site.
I CANT adjust ANY values not even 1, 2 or 3 mhz more or less! The values are frozen and wont budge. It is like there is some anti overclocking protection device that wont let me change the values
note: there are no bios settings related to the gpu or cpu that I can find.
note2: On my desktop I have a geforce 6200 and with these 3 tools I am able to adjust the clock frequences even by 1, 2 or 3 mhz no problems
Anyone else have a similar problem? Any solutions? Perhaps its because the the drivers from laptopvideo2go arent really official for my card and Winxp? Thanks in advance

wow, i wouldn't be surprised, I think the geforce 8600m gs is already maxed out on clock speeds.

but in that thread comparing the two, i think somebody successfully did it, do you have 2 gigs of ram?

The 8600M GS in the F3Sv can't OC that high. Use AtiTool to find the max core/memory.

Yeah, don't do it to 600/700 it won't go that high, try 550/550 o something.

No, they're saying alot of people have. And that for whatever reason they can't OC it that high. I remember a thread where where an Asus F3SV would crash when they tried to OC it.

Edit: I have figured out the problem.. I reinstalled back windows Vista on the laptop so that I could dual boot and I am able to over/underclock the video card. It seems that the Xp driver is probably the issue here as it doesnt officially support my card.

Some GS cards are clocked at 400 MHZ, and some are clocked at 700 MHZ. If you have the one clocked at 400, you can't clock it all the way up to 700. Mine came with 700 so I didn't have to overclock it. I think you can probably clock it to about 550 though.
