Are there any legitimate FREE programs that play DVDs? Not just trials, but free programs that works?

Top 2 choices are
~ Media Player Classic with either the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack or Commumity Codec Pack. Then configure
~ Or VLC. Very simple one stop shop
I used to use VLC, but today messing around with ffdshow and MPC, I find the image quality better with the latter. I have now uninstalled VLC. Temporarily satisfied with my DVD player of choice (contemplating buying a pro software)

Remember, all of those are illegal in the USA, because they circumvent the copy protection of DVD's, so they're against the DMCA. If you want to play DVD's in the United States, you need to pay for a program. They should often come with a new computer, though.

I'd recommend MPC as LFC stated, I use it and I haven't complained once, low cpu, plays like all the formats

Well thats very stupid.
I am not going to pay for a program to play DVD's if there are free alternatives.
Anyways my vote goes to VLC although MPC is also good.
