Question:
Battlefield 2/2142 widescreen
BF 2 and 2142 do not support widescreen resolutions, due to EA thinking its "cheating." What have any of you done to resolve these types of issues? I'm running Vista and am not sure how to adjust the resolution. Can someone give me step by step instructions to make my new notebook have two black rectangles on the sides of my screen so I can play :p ?

Re: Battlefield 2/2142 widescreen
easy. nvidia control panel: find the scaling option and set it to "do not scale"
that will create the black bars. just make sure your screen's vertical resolution matches the resolution of the game- or else you will have 4 black bars.
otherwise, the image will be interpolated to fit your screen.
as an alternative, you can enable native widescreen custom resolutions, that are full screen, not interpolated, but have the same horizontal FOV as the 4:3 resolutions. i think they manage this by chopping off some of your vertical view? i dont remember exactly, but it doesn't look stretched and its not cheating.
google wide screen gaming and find battlefield.

Re: Battlefield 2/2142 widescreen
under the nvidia control panel "change flat panel scaling," the options under "when using a resolution lower than my displays native res..." (which include "do not scale") are all grayed out. "Use nvidia scaling" is the default selection, but can be changed. How do I fix it?

Re: Battlefield 2/2142 widescreen
no need to do the Nvidia Scale stuff....
Both BF2 and BF2142 support widescreens fine.
Just go to www.tweakguides.com for the configs.

well, there are ways you can make them go widescreen, but punkbuster immediately kicks you if you go on multiplayer. I really would like to just get the two big black rectangles...

Re: Battlefield 2/2142 widescreen
To set a custom resolution for BF2142, change your command line to look similar to this:
"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024
Note the addition of the +szx and +szy commands which respectively set the width and height of the custom resolution to be used. Substitute other values for other resolutions (e.g. +szx 1900 +szy 1200).
Like This: :D
Works perfect for BF2 and BF2142.
I feel sorry for those that play stretch, non-native resolutions, or aspect scaling.... why have a nice widescreen, if you are not going to game with it.

Re: Battlefield 2/2142 widescreen
I have played BF2 since it first came out using the command line that Gophn describes without any problems. I do believe though that it does cut off your FOV, kind of as if you were staring through a horizontal slit in one of those steel doors that lead to a private club / party as if you were the bouncer (I can see it now... "Whats the password?!", haha)

If you have Vista you can try running it as administrator....happened to me if I don't run it as administrator in F.E.A.R....they would kick me out.
