"Setup Did Not find any Hard Disk drives installed..."

Question:
"Setup Did Not find any Hard Disk drives installed..."
Hi
Recently my Gateway laptop, only 3 years old would not boot to windows. I figured it was a software problem and reformatting with XP would fix the problem. So I popped in the disk and get all the way to the part where you select your partition and it is saying "setup did not find and hard disk drives..."
I did some searching on google and found some others saying they had the same problem(not later than 2004). I was reading I would have to install the HD drivers when setup asks for any other software to be installed. So I pressed F2 like it says at the proper time and it said something like "Sorry no floppy disks are installed" Floppy disks? This is 2007. Could this all just be a hardware problem?
Any help?

I think you do have to go for the floppy disks... Unfortunately, I'm not 100% sure you can use a USB floppy drive. Did any of the google search results have solutions posted?

You'll need to download the SATA drivers onto a floppy disk and get an external USB floppy drive. I asked whether this could be done with a normal USB stick, but apparently the answer is no.

If you don't have a floppy, just slipstream the drivers in. It's quick, easy, and painless once you get the hang of it. Use nLite.

I have a Windows XP Pro SP2 Student Edition disc (ostensibly through my university *wink*) that installs fine on SATA drives with no additional drivers needed. Same with every OEM Windows XP SP2 disc I've ever had. My suggestion, thusly, is to try to find a SP2 disc. You own the key, not the disc, so what disc you use doesn't matter - yes, legally - as long as you use the correct version and your key (which can be found on the bottom of the machine). Or, as Overclocker said, you can slipstream the drivers in yourself, if you can find them and have access to a working CD burner.

Slipstream the drivers. Gateway SATAs aren't recognized by XP otherwise - this is coming from someone on a Gateway SATA. Google "nlite". Download it. Go to Gateway.com and download the SATA hardware controller for your computer model. Unpack it. Open nLite. Load your Windows disk. Add the drivers. Save an ISO. Burn the ISO. Reboot. Put it in. Your hard drive detects flawlessly. Install.

I have tried a pirated version...shhhh.. and my Dell XP re installation DVD. Surprisingly to me, the dell disk got just as far before the message came up.

Nlite is asking me were to put the files on the CD. I don't know were to put them...
Yes, This is the pirated disk I have. It has worked on other PC's. I also have a Dell disk if this one can't be worked out.
