Question:
If Not Nortons?
I have used Norton's Systemworks and Norton's Antivurus for years . . .
I am hearing that there is better antivurs software out there, and even some freeware that is better? Got a new dv9500t laptop sitting at my desk now . . . hasn't been turned on . . . so I am waiting for best advice and practice if I am not going to activate Norton's on it.
Any assistance?

NOD32 without a doubt. It is written with a more efficient programming language and hence uses less memory and CPU time to accomplish the same tasks.

NOD32 / Kaspersky - $
I personally use both AVAST and AVG (as in my desktop / laptop) b/c my university login software doesn't recognzie Avast and it needs to detect an anti virus to log in...

Personally, I use AVG Internet Security 7.5 on my laptop and AVG Free on my notebook. I used to use norton on my old laptop, but it is a resource hog; so I decided to move to AVG as it is both cheaper and better .

I concurr with 'The General' who has posted above me. For no apparent reason and for many versions now Norton has been a memory hog. Also uninstalling it is a pain as it leaves behind a ton of dlls and registry entries.
I have been using AVG Free for a few years now and am quite happy with it, especially since it is free.
