Quadro nvs 2500M vs GeForce 8600m GT

Question:
Quadro nvs 2500M vs GeForce 8600m GT
Hi!
Should I prefer GeForce 8600m GT over quadro 2500 because it sipports DX10 and shader model 4.0?
But 8600m is listed class2 while quadro 2500m is listed class1 on notebookcheck.net
I want to be future ready :)!
Thanks!

The Quadro 2500m >>>>> the 8600m GT. It may not have the 'new' technology, but it has plenty of power to push the 'old' stuff.

Re: Quadro nvs 2500M vs GeForce 8600m GT
So you prefer quadro?
If there come some new games in a year or two, since game devs dont want to lose customers, they should still be developing in DX9, then I will have problems if i dont have DX10 card?
So new games wont run right?
Is there any news of DX10 cards to be put into dell latitudes or precisions within a month or so? so i can wait :)
Thanks!

uhhhh
8600gt is a dx10 club....which is already in latitudes and precisions
and yes
dx9 will be around for awhile. so get the quadro if you're into gaming

Re: Quadro nvs 2500M vs GeForce 8600m GT
Hi! Thanks for your advice guys!
1) Do you think that spending around 400-500 USDs on Quadro 2500M is worth it? since DX9 is gonna be down!
2) How about Quadro NVS 120m in DELL Latitude vs GeForce 8600m GT in inspiron 1720?
Can the Quadro play compete with 8600m GT? forget about a few units of FPS loss, how about the rest of gameplay?
Can the Quadro play the games like MS Fligh Simulator X with high details in 1024 resolution? if not higher!
Thanks!

Re: Quadro nvs 2500M vs GeForce 8600m GT
The NVS 120m is a go7400. So the 8600M GT is not only directx10 but also about 4 times faster then the go7400. Its a no contest and clear win for the Inspiron 1720.
The NVS 120m will have a hard time with MS Flight X. It will run maybe only at lower resolutions but I dont think it will be very pretty.

Re: Quadro nvs 2500M vs GeForce 8600m GT
All because Im hesitating to buy the Inspiron 1720 is: -
1) The speakers may be blocked, because they are infront, i guess, there is a subwoofer in 1520, I dont know where, but mainly, the speakers are in the front, so the sound will not be good in the lap!
2) Although 8600m GT is a dedicated 256mb card, still the 2GB RAM on DELL website, when configuring, is listed as "SHARED"
Here are the original wordings: -
FREE! 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz [Included in Price]
3) The harddisk is 5400 RPM, and not 7200 RPM, perhaps a major reason!
4) Dont know if the battery runs for about 4 hours, when simply browsing, since I will be developing websites, so no load!
Also, is 8600m GT DDR2 or DDR3? a review on computer-notebook for Inspiron 1520 mentioned that although the testing softwares/ benchmarkers show its DDR3, it is in fact DDR2...!
Thanks!

FREE! 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz [Included in Price] that is ddr2 RAM (ram used by the system and can be shared by the gpu) , not gddr (GRAPHICS double data rate) ram that is dedicated for gpu use ONLY
3) The harddisk is 5400 RPM, and not 7200 RPM, perhaps a major reason! get 160 gb 5400rpm HD and the high platter density should match 7200rpm in data transfer rate of a lower platter density disc. Also, higher rpm HD = more heat = shorter battery life

for the last time
IT IS GDDR 2!!!!!!!!!!!
RIVA TUNER IS WRONG!!! it is meant for DESKTOP not LAPTOP and reads the 8600gt in the laptop wrong
the e1720's 8600gt IS DDR2 like the vast majority of 8600gt

What does it mean?
You mean to say there are types of RAMs installed into motherboard which can be shared and which cannot be? I thought all the system RAMs can be shared if the graphics card wants to!

You mean to say there are types of RAMs installed into motherboard which can be shared and which cannot be? I thought all the system RAMs can be shared if the graphics card wants to! Well there are two ways Nvidia cards can share system RAM:
1) Through Nvidia's Turbocache: http://www.nvidia.com/page/turbocache.html
2) Through Vista's memory sharing feature
So if the Nvidia card features Turbocache then it'll most likely use that (even in Vista I think?) otherwise you can just use Vista's built in feature for older cards that do not support it.
Edit: And like everyone else has been saying, the NVS 2500M is a much better card. If you can wait for a bit, however, you might want to wait till UT3 and possibly Crysis come out to see if DX10 features are worth it and if they even run decently on an 8600M.
