Laptop dark spots
Hi all, this is the best category I found to post this.
Anyways, I (accidentally) used my laptop to support a leg for my chair. Took me about five minutes to realize, but luckily the laptop was closed :). Now a dark, circular spot about the size of a penny has formed were the leg was sitting on. It does not look like the screen cracked, all the pixels in the dot work, but the area is just darker than the rest of the screen. It also varries in darkness, getting darker as it gets closer to the center of the dot. Its kind of looks like how the screen gets dark when you put pressure on it with your finger.
The laptop is an older model IBM. Any one have any ideas on how I can fix it? I can "pop the hood" on the laptop and try to modify the LCD unit, but I don't want to buy a new LCD. Thanks.

Is the lid dented? cracked? Have you try EASILY massaging the screen?
btw-asking a mod to move this to a more appropriate forum, hardware maybe?

i know, ive had that problem before. its actually when you put pressure in that spot it tends to darken. i have a sony psp, and i accidentally did that once now there is a permanent dark spot in the middle of the screen. so far there really is no way to fix that, unless you get a new screen.

You actually broke some of the pixels and subpixels within the LCD screen. Aside from purchasing a new screen, there is no way to fix it.
