Question:
128MB vs 256MB Quadro FX 570m
I searched for a thread of the 128mb vs 256mb 8600GT and read through the macbook pro's results. do you think the same result would show for the quadro fx series in gaming? mainly i just want to know if the 128mb version of the Quadro FX 570m will be able to handle crysis and starcraft 2 and maybe CoD4 at med settings at a 1440 x 900 resolution.

Re: 128MB vs 256MB Quadro FX 570m
I'm guessing you'll get similar results between the difference between the 128 vs 256 MB 8600 GT compared to the difference between a 128 vs 256 MB 570M. By similar results I mean the gap between the two will probably be similar, but the 570M should be more powerful than the 8600 GT. I'm pretty sure the 128 MB 570M could run those games.

You should be ok but i think the 256mb card would do better at 1440x900 cause that ram helps out alot in resolutions above 1280x800...

Re: 128MB vs 256MB Quadro FX 570m
the t61p thinkpad comes with a 570M 256 card, according to Greg:
"the card is NOT a equalivalent of 8600m GT as many say. It is more powerful because My understanding is the 570M in the T61P use GDDR3 memory, which accounts for the 'more powerful' score compared to the 1520 and its DDR2 graphics memory (which is not as fast).
If a laptop with the 8600GT had GDDR3 memory (some do, I just don't know which) then they'd probably about tie."
the 256 will handle SC2 at max settings, Crysis probably only on medium settings. I read somewhere that even the 8800 GTX had trouble with crysis on max resolution/settings

the 14.1" T61p only has the 128mb GDDR3 memory, which is why i'm wondering if it'll make that much of a performance difference or will adding something like 3 GB of RAM make up for some of the performance loss.
Also, the 128mb FX570m should outperform the 256mb 8600gs right?

Thats a hard question to answer because "real benchmark" tests for the 570M and 8600 GT havent come out yet, so you will see different scores from different sources, each telling you a different story.
On my money, i would still say the 8600 GS will be slightly more powerful, despite the fact that it is GDDR2.

Re: 128MB vs 256MB Quadro FX 570m
I would say it's about as powerful as the 8600GS. They both have GDDR3 and a 128-bit interface, but the 570M has twice as many stream processors. However, its drivers are not gaming-optimized and (in your case) it only has 128MB RAM against the 8600GS's 256MB.
All said and done, they're probably equal. The 128MB 570M is the rough workstation equivalent of the 128MB 8600GT found in the MBP.
