Compiz on thinkpad T42 with ATI mobility radeon 7500 ?
I tried installing compiz on my T42 (SXGA+) accroding to:
http://technowizah.com/2006/10/debia...lx-compiz.html
3d cube etc work, but the right 30% of my screen is dead, windows become unresponsinve there, and when dragged leave a residue: (
I also tried installing beryl according to
http://jortega.org/2007/05/06/beryl-en-debian-etch/
No effect (I think it rolls back to metacity). I do see the bryl icon on my panel though. But no 3d effects.
I get this error message:
Code:
This is on debian etch.
Any idea on how to fix this ?

That looks like the graphics card on your laptop is running out of memory. I don't think there's a solution for it, unfortunately. Compiz and Beryl use textures to display windows, and that takes video memory. Your machine is just under-specced to run Beryl or Compiz at full resolution.

Yeah, I have that problem on my old laptop too. The core is physically strong enough to handle Beryl, but as Pita said, I don't think the 32MB of memory the MR7500 has is enough to power the 1400x1050 screen. I've seen people have no issues with 1024x768, so the high resolution of our screens is probably the culprit.
