Ive just heard that the Toshiba A2001GB which comes with the ATI hd2600XT is already shipping!!
Does this card outperforms the 8600GT found in the Dell 1520 or ACER 5920?

thats because no one wants to buy it. (huge expensive 17" machine with a 15" gaming card)
the hd 2600 xt should par the 8600m gt.
from the desktop benchmarks (which should pretty much represent the difference between the mobile benchmarks) the ati card hits par with the 8600m gt except for certain games - most notably FEAR. hopefully thats a driver issue that will be resolved. Company of Heroes in dx10 was made with only ati in consideration, so that benchmark does very well for ati. some of the other dx10 patch games are made for nvidia only. im sure the *real dx 10 games like bioshock will perform well on both.
also, anytime you turn on anti aliasing on the hd 2600 xt it just plummets.
so to recap: the 8600m gt beats out the ati card on some games due to apparent driver issues. the reverse is true for ati also. anytime you enable anti aliasing the 8600m gt will win.

keep in mind the desktop and laptop cards are functionally the same and only slightly underclocked compared to the desktop versions. therefore, these benches - or other desktop benches - should hold true.

Masterchef341: Comparing desktop cards to laptop cards is a bad idea. For example the desktop 7600 blew the x1600 out of the water but in notebooks the x1600 was better then the 7600.
Its just better not to speculate and just wait for the benchmarks :)

yeah, but the desktop 7600 was fundamentally different. they were similar, but the desktop version had more pixel pipelines and such.
in this generation, the only difference between a desktop 8600 gt and an 8600m gt is the clock speed. the same is true for the mobility hd 2600 xt and the desktop hd 2600 xt. the only difference is clockspeed. and the clock speeds are not very far away. that is my point.

I found an example that shows that the HD2600 is about on par with the 8600GT, give or take situations where each slightly beats eachother, but about the same. Guru3D even gives 8600GT some props...personally I prefer ATI but I got myself the 8600M 512MB GT since it seemed to be superior of the two.

Sorry I couldn't find your mobility 8600gt/2600xt reviews, maybe its my browser. Could you repost them?
edit: Oh ok found it, didn't see the edited post :) . Yea thats all desktop stuff though, doesn't really show anything. In the end its all going to come down to clock speeds I think, we've already seen how much better the 8600gt performs with higher speeds. I really want to know what the x2600xt is clocked at and if 65nm makes a difference towards power consumption/temperatures.
