MacBook Pro 128MB 8600m GT card

Question:
MacBook Pro 128MB 8600m GT card
Hi everyone,
I'm pretty much set on buying the 2.2 ghz version of the MBP with the 128mb 8600m GT video card.
however, as one last check before i purchase it, i was wondering if i could get a few things cleared up....
1) how does this graphics card compare with the Intel GMA X3100?
2) do you think i will be able to run starcraft 2 smoothly when it comes out? (and diablo 3 if it ever does)
3) how do games such as cs, sc, and d2 play out with this video card?
thanks for the help!

1) the 8600M GT is way way way better then the X3100.
2) Impossible to know but it should. Atleast with lower settings
3) It will play them great.

It will easily play CS 1.6 and most likely Source. Also SC and D2 will play very well with that kind of video card.

SC Minimum System Requirements
OS: 95/98/NT
CPU: 90MHz
RAM: 16 MB
Video: DirectX-Compatible SVGA
Disc Drive: 2x or faster CD/DVD drive
yeah i think SC will run :P

He meant SC2, which isn't coming out until next year. It's impossible to say what graphics level you'll have to set it to - it has some nice grafical features - but I'm positive you'll be able to run it fairly well.

Blizzard is usually good to the pc users of the world given that they try to make a game that is accessible to alot of people. I think thats what Crytek is doing with Crysis. I just hope my notebook will be able to run it.

I have to agree. Blizzard always aims for "style over intense graphic power". They prefer to let the art do the work, instead of shoving as many polygons as they can into something.

lol it will destroy the x3100

Re: MacBook Pro 128MB 8600m GT card
1. Simply put, it will be years before the 8600M GT's performance is as bad as the integrated X3100's presently.
2. In anticipation and prediction, I am guessing that you will be able to run it just fine. Maybe not highest settings, but probably a good setup.
3. Yes.

What everyone else said!
The 3100 is powerful as far as Intel integrated things go, but it's still weak as all get out. Diablo 3 might never happen, and if it does it's probably at least two/three years away, and who knows how graphics are then.
