Question:
Heads Up Everyone
I just wanted to let anyone know who is experiencing frame rate issues in games when it is known that they should be performing better to please check your processor speed.
Specific games with which problems encountered:
Counter Strike: Source
Day of Defeat: Source
(All Source based games can be implied as well)
Battlefield 2
Battlefield 2142
Problem: I was experiencing poor frame rates in the games listed above, for several months I continued to play thinking it was my video card which was not just powerful enough. I went through multiple driver reinstalls with no solution.
A week ago I had enough of it and decided to run mobile meter while I gamed and look at the resulting graph afterwards.
I had expanded mobile meter across my entire desktop so I could see the graphs for the past 10 minutes or so.
I noticed something, my CPU (Intel Core Duo T2400 1.83ghz) never went above 1ghz while playing those games. I then opened up NHC and forced maximum performance resulting in a full 1.83ghz all the time. I tried playing my games again and performance was now excellent. As further precaution I disabled Intel Speedsteping in the BIOS so now my CPU is constantly clocked at 1.83ghz. This will affect heat and battery life if you are mobile, but I am rarely mobile and recently applied AS5 to my CPU.
So just in case you thought you tried everything, check your CPU.

What was your NHC settings before you changed it?
Answer:
Re: Heads Up Everyone
I did not have NHC installed or any CPU controlling software.
I installed NHC to force maximum performance.

Ohhh. Hmm...that's really interesting. Well i'm glad its working for you now. You were playing thinking it was your GPU for a long time. Must feel better to play games at your lappy's full potential. Did you ever post b4 on the poor frame rates?

Re: Heads Up Everyone
Definitely, yeah I did but I sort of gave up on it a month or two ago.

so thats why i dont use third party power management programs. :D

Re: Heads Up Everyone
But it was NHC that allowed him to use his processor to its max.
NHC is a great program...
Answer:
Re: Heads Up Everyone
Of course now I do not actually use NHC to force maximum performance since I disabled Intel Speedstepping but I still keep it for when I do not want to run a maximum speed or if I am mobile.
NHC is an excellent program.

Re: Heads Up Everyone
Will forcing the proc to run at max 100% of the time affect its lifespan very much?
(I have a feeling that answer is "Not if you have adequate cooling," but I want to make sure)

No because it was designed to do so.
