Question:
8600M GT Driver 162.18
Alright, so I've got a Dell Inspiron 1520 (specs in sig), and I heard that it was better to update the video drivers than use the ones from Dell for game performance. I updated to the 162.18 drivers from laptopvideo2go.com, but now under my device manager it lists my display adapter as being an "8600 GT" instead of an "8600M GT". Is that normal since these drivers aren't really designed for laptops?

Did you download the modded inf and replace the inf in the setup folder?

Re: 8600M GT Driver 162.18
I did, but 162.18 was a self extracting file, and it had replaced the modded inf when I downloaded it. Should I copy the modded inf over the extracted one and reinstall the drivers?

Re: 8600M GT Driver 162.18
Unless it specifically asked you do you want to confirm that you want to replace this file I don't think it will work. Again I'm not sure if this is a huge deal because if you are able to run games then you are fine because the regular driver is designed for desktop gpus and the modded inf is needed to make that driver work properly with the laptop gpu.

Thanks forerunner! I copied the modded inf over the extracted one and reinstalled, and it's recognized as the "M" version now. Appreciate it!
