Question:
Cannot PING-ing the other notebook
On my office we have 2 Siemens Amilo Pro notebooks I want to link in a wireless LAN.
I set IP1=192.168.136.100 /255.255.255.0 and IP2=192.168.136.101/255.255.255.0,
two different computer names, the same W1(network name SSID) wireless conection (mode 802.11g &802.11b) as following:
-computer to computer (adhoc)
-automatically connect to non-prefferd networks
-Data encrypption(WEP enabled)
-Network authentication(Shared mode)
-The key is provided for me automaticaly
On both computers the result is Signal strength:Excellent and the wireless connection enabled
(the wireless device is Intel Pro/wireless 2200BG network).
I set up further an office connection, disabling LAN connection (with NIC) and Irda connection and providing
just a wireless connection.
I disabled WXP SP2 firewall on both but I cannot see smth. in My network places to do a file copy from a share directory to other laptop.
What to do?
Answer:
do you have the file and printer sharing service turned on?
zx5000 :: 2.4M :: 512 DDR :: 40gb 4200 RPM HD :: 15.4" :: Radeon 9600 Mobilty M10 :: Aquamark3 22,856
Answer:
Yes, of course!Even Intel asked me smth. like that:
"Thank you for contacting Intel(R) Technical Support.
Please note that File and Printer Sharing is a Microsoft* service,
therefore we would suggest contacting Microsoft or the computer
manufacturer for support on this issue."
In case I made a LAN connection with the 2 notebooks on their NIC's they "see" each other so the sharing is on! But in case of wireless not!
Answer:
well you do have to turn off the microsoft firewall for each connection. so even if you turned it off for the NIC you still have to turn it off for the wireless.
