Re: Best Antivirus?
I've always had problems with Norton screwing up my system and suckin the life out of my resources. McAfee, always great, but now you have to pay for their subscriptions- well I guess they all are now. And PC-cillin is very customizable, uses up very little resources, and top rated on CNET.

Is NOD32 any good?

Re: Best Antivirus?
Norton is a giant piece of bloatware. I use AVG and think it's great, forget about the fact that it's free. Plus you can turn off those tags in the email, so they're not advertising when you send mail. It's a small program that runs cleanly, not much else you can ask for.

Re: Best Antivirus?
I've tried AVG but I didn't feel like it was doing anything. I went right back to Avast.
It doesn't always feel like Avast is helping, but it has caught some stuff. I'm satisified.
I also liked Panda, but I'm sticking with Avast for now. Of the options given, I'd vote Panda.

Re: Best Antivirus?
NOD32.
It consistantly ranks at the top in detecting new and current threats, it has very low resource usage, and you get updates sometimes up to 4 or 5 times a day.

Tried the rest and AVG turned out to be the best.

Re: Best Antivirus?
I have to admit, being an AOL user definitely has it's benefits. Most of us have used AOL at some point or another but if you haven't tried it with a broadband connection, you seem to miss a lot.
Though AOL costs about $24 a month, you get more extra's then I have seen on any ISP. 3 of those extra's include AOL's own spyware, McAfee VirusScan, and McAfee Personal Firewall Express which has done far better than the XP SP2 firewall. I think the best benefit is the fact AOL uses it's own Spyware. Even though AOL has more competition, it is still the leader in the amount of users. And therefore they get more reports of new adware and spyware and can make more updates. Rather than some independent companies with only a few users reporting new degrading software.

Re: Best Antivirus?
There is no question Nod32 is the best. All the top independant journals rank Nod32 very high, not only that but its been ranked high longer then any other vender. Its shown the highest detection rate for in wild and zoo virues as well as the lowest false positive reports.
Nod32 is so good, it even has it's own cult following. As far as your list goes though, Trend Micro (maker of PC-Cillin's engine) rankes the highest. After that would come Panda. Avast and AVG are pretty weak; one quarter their real good the next their really weak. For me the best way to judge a program's true effectiveness is to look at it's overall track history, not just this year or this quarter's results.

Re: Best Antivirus?
PC-cillin is definately good. I have only used it and Norton (free from school) and even the trend micro free online "house call" scan would catch things Norton didnt. The firewall is good, and its doesnt bog down your computer even when it loads at start up.
