Question:
Internet timeouts when on battery
I've been having a problem with slooooowwww page loading and then constant timeouts when surfing the net unplugged (strangely, checking email doesn't seem to be affected). As soon as I plug in the AC adapter, everything is fine again. I checked the power and network settings and didn't see anything there that looked relevant. Does anyone know what could be causing this and how to fix it? Specs are in my sig, and I'm using a recently downloaded (within the last month) version of Firefox.

Are you using Dell's Quickset? I'm not sure if that is one of the programs on the latitude lines, but there is an option in there that turns off the wireless card when you are on battery.

Re: Internet timeouts when on battery
If you check the properties of your network card, it may have a transnit power and power management settings. Try jumping the transmit power to max and the power saving to min as this sounds like a power saving issue. It drops connections because of the lack of power.
Also, you have 2 systems in your signature, which one is the problem on?

Duh, sorry, Venombite. It's the new one--the D610. I'll check those things when I get home tonight.
SouthernGirl, yes, the Quickset utility is on Latitudes, but since the email still works and the pages partially load sometimes, I don't think the network card is turned off, but I'll check that too just to make sure.
Thanks, both of you!

Yay!! There was a power management setting buried in the network adapter properties, and the default was (stupidly) on the lowest setting. Problem seems to be solved. Thanks, Venombite! Much appreciated.
