Question:
Connection problems w/ Broadcom 802.11b/g and Linksys WRT54G?
Have had an HP L2000 with the Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN & Bluetooth integrated network card and the Linksys WRT54G wireless router for the past couple of weeks and my wireless connection has been outright horrible!
The notebook doesn't pick up the wireless signal a lot of the time and even when it does, transfer rates vary wildly. Is this a sign of incompatability between the router and the integrated network card or is this just inherent in wireless connections?
Anyone with a smilar combo experience the same issues? Any known issues about either the router or network card that should make me consider changing notebooks and/or routers?
Thanks in advance for any advice on the matter as this sure is frustrating!

Try changing the router and network card to G only. If mixing with B products, it may cause an incompatibility/speed problems. Also, unde rthe card properties, make sure all the signal power strength is set to max.

Also, there might be interference (i.e., telephone, tv, etc), so set the channel on the router to either the highest value or the lowest, see if that changes anything.

I had a similar problem. Downgrading the wireless security on my Linksys WRT300N Router from WPA2 to WPA seems to improve the situation. Still watching but worth trying out.

There can be no incompatibility as WRT54G uses Broadcom radio chip.
Update your drivers in addition to what was previously said.
See if your laptop's Wi-Fi card is BCM4318 or BCM94318 (it's the same thing anyways) If so your router and notebook use the same chip so there has to be other reason (cordless phone?)
