Question:
Dell inspiron 700m and Belkin Pre N wireless router
I have trouble connecting my Belkin Pre N router to work.
When i plug my lan cable into the Pre N router, it shows that it is always "acquiring an IP address" after 1 minute later, the yellow sign beside the lan notification appears, saying thre is limited or no connectivity.
SO i thought there must be something wrong with my Broadcom LAN adaptor (built in by dell), and i plugged it into my WEB EXCEL router..... it worked fine.
I have read some of the other posts such as going to TCP/IP and turning DHCP assigninng on etc etc.... but no use.
all your help is greatly appreciated.
thanks

Is the firmware updated on the router and drivers updated on the wireless internal card. Also, try disabling all Firewalls. Good Luck!

1- Check to see if any firewalls/antivirus SW is enabled, this includes the XP firewall.
2 - power cycle the router, by unplugging for a few secounds.
3 - Check your IP address, go to run -> cmd -> type ipconfig @ command prompt
(a 169.254 address is an internal address from your NIC, a 192.168 address is a given address from the router)
4 - if all else fails, try resetting the stack in a command prompt, start - run - cmd - then
type-> netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
(this resets everything)
5 - updating the firmware is a good idea, but may not be an option @ work. I doubt this is a firmwear issue, but u never know... Check your windows updates under hardware, and see if there are any updates for your NIC.

HI, thanks for all the advice. I have tried all of them but it still doesnt work.
From CMD, i can see that the router has assigned me an address it is like 192.168.x.x
But i see a Blank next to gateway.
I cannot update router firmware as i cannot even access to it.
Router powers up allrite and detects when i plug it into my adsl modem and my laptop.
Any further suggestions?

Does your computer see the wireless network? Also, try hard wired to the router through an Ethernet cable. Also, what you could do is just get Belkin wireless adapter. :)

What do you mean you can't access the router? It has an IP address that if you type it into a browser should get you to its admin. Also, did you buy it recently? I'd take it back since pre-n offers little to no value anyway.

Re: Dell inspiron 700m and Belkin Pre N wireless router
Brian : my belkin pre n router uses 192.168.2.1 to access admin previllges. I cannot access it. It wont even let me get into the address above. ( its the one with Airgo, true mimo technology)
greebler: thanks for your help but i cant seem to get it goin.
(looks like its a NIC internal address, router not giving me one
Do u think it might be a clash between DHCPs? Ie do i have to disable DHCP on my DSL modem?
Below is a screenshot of my CMD. I tried using wireless, i get the same problem too... the yellow sign at the bottom. (but wireless detects it allright i just cant connect!)
I have tried the reset button on the router many times too

I removed your image, it was breaking our design. Please make it smaller or load through our interface.
Have you tried belkin support yet? The other thing, is that IP might be conflicting with your cable modem. If you plug the router directly into your machine, with no other layers, you still can't get to the admin console?

Re: Dell inspiron 700m and Belkin Pre N wireless router
if you plug your laptop directly into your router via an rj45/ethernet cable, you're saying you can't access the administrative functions? you should be able to do that regardless of whether the router is attached to the modem or not.
if you can't even do that then something is seriously wrong with your hardware. exchange or return it for new hardware.
