can't get home network to work

Question:
can't get home network to work
today i tried to set up a home network between my desk top and a notebook. the desktop has a pci ethernet card and the laptop has one inbuilt. the desktop is running xp home and the notebook's got xp pro. i just wanted to do an ad hoc setup for transfering files.
i used the network setup wizzard and every thing the help notes told me but i get a message saying there is limited or no conectivity.
however i set both computers to file and printer sharing, but the desktop can access the files on the notebook but not the other way round.
:base: wtf is goin on

Re: can't get home network to work
Nope
And try manually setting the ip address by entering your isp's ip address into the browser bar were you type the internet websites. Change one computer to 192.168.1.100 and the other one 192.168.1.101 . Maybe update the firmware to just to be sure.
