Re: hardware thing
Hello to a familiar face. :)
You're definitely a gamer, as I can see from the amount of games you want to play. I recommend getting a 256MB video card, that will really be an advantage in the latest games and future ones. 2GB of RAM is also a good idea. Many games can take advantage of that, such as Doom 3 and Quake 4; BF2 as well.
Right now, I would have to recommend the Dell Inspiron E1705. You can get it with the Core Duo, Go7800 256MB [will play all your games at the max.], and a 17" display for under your budget.
One thing I want to mention though is that Dell overcharges for RAM . .best off getting the minimum and then getting some aftermarket.
Cheers

Re: hardware thing
Thanks.
2 questions, is the Inspiron 9400 better quality then the 8600 was? ( since my friend owned a 8600 and it was crap)
And Also, is the Core duo 1.86 enough power or get the 2.0?
Answer:
Re: hardware thing
1.86 should be enough.
Answer:
Re: hardware thing
Yeah, 1.86GHz should be enough.
Hm, the quality is iffy. If you can get your hands on an Inspiron 9300, that has the same quality. I would look for a Dell kiosk in your area, see if you can arrange to go and see one in person.
The 8600 was one of Dell's better laptops, I think that the E1705 should have similar quality.

Re: hardware thing
Eh, I dont keep machines for more then 2 years anyway.
So Ill get the Dell, quality isnt a issue since its not like crap. PC WORLD gave them average for quality so average and above is enough for me.
Will that extra 0.2 GHZ make a diffenrece in heavy gaming and vista?
Answer:
Re: hardware thing
The 1.83GHz is fine . . .I would just stick with that. The 2.0GHz is pretty expensive, and there most likely would not be any noticable increase in performance.
Answer:
Re: hardware thing
Stay with the 1.80ghz
