Re: Fan of desktops switching to laptops
Dell M170 is probably your best bet.
Answer:
Re: Fan of desktops switching to laptops
If you can get the Dell M170 for $1500, then I would get that.
Also, take a look at the Dell Inspiron E1705. Go7800, Intel Core Duo. Great deal, especially if you use the coupons to drag the price down.

Re: Fan of desktops switching to laptops
The lowest price for a M170 is $2300 and upgraded to what I would like it comes to $2600 thats on the Dell website. Any ideas where I could get a cheaper one? Thanks again for the help.

Re: Fan of desktops switching to laptops
Yeah, I thought it was over your budget.
I'd definitely look at the E1705. Also, on www.ISTNC.com, you can custom build laptops. The Quanta KN1 is a great fit for your needs, as well as the MW1. They are not as powerful as the Dell but are smaller. The Go6600 will be great for Doom 3.
Hey Rob Roy - that was a great movie!

I guess one more question would be if I got the budget for $2600 would it be wise to get the m170 or would it be better to get something else?
It is a good movie, he is my hero.

Re: Fan of desktops switching to laptops
Rob, I don't want to make you spend more than you intend to . . you can get what you need for your budget.
The Dell E1705 would be nice as a 17", and although the video card is not as powerful as the 7800GTX in the XPS M170, it will still be great - it comes clocked a little low though, you can overclock it to get best performance.
Quanta KN1, MW1, and the MSI-1029 are worth considering in a 15"-15.4" size.

Re: Fan of desktops switching to laptops
I was looking at the asus Z83V with no os fo $1569 it seems better then the E1705 and a little cheaper. The processor is better on the z83v but im not sure on the radeon x700 or is this machine used more for multimedia stuff then games? I guess i want something similar to my desktop. It has amd athlon 64 3200+ runs at 2ghz and 1gb of ram and a radeon 9800 256mb grapics card (which doesnt work very well). I am running windows xp 64bit os but i have a copy of regualr xp as well. Sorry for being such a nuisance on your forums.

Re: Fan of desktops switching to laptops
You're not a nuisance - spending money for a laptop is an important decision. Good thing you stopped by here. ;)
I would take the Dell E1705 over the Asus Z83V. Sure, the Asus has a nicer design and better build quality, but the Dell is much more powerful, both in terms of 3D and multitasking. Dual-core is definitely worth it.
The X700 in the Asus will be roughly equivalent to your 9800. I have an X700 in my laptop, and a 9800XT in my desktop - both perform similarly. ;)

Re: Fan of desktops switching to laptops
On the dell website the E1705 says it can come with different processors but it only lets you have the Intel core solo processor t1300 (1.66ghz/667mhz fsb) how does that compare to intel p-m processor 760 2mb cache 2.0 ghz 533fsb.
And how does the 256MB NVIDA® GeForce™ Go 7800 compare to the ati x700 128mb.
Those are the main differences between the two (E1705 and z83v) so enlightenment on this subject would be great.
