Gateway mx7525 or Hp dv 5035???
I'm seeking some assistance in buing a new laptop. I currently have a Gericom laptop with Intel Centrino 1.8 G, 256 mb memory and 20 gb hd. So you probaly understand that I want to replace this oldtimer. I'm looking at a Gateway Mx7525 for 1250 Us$ or a Hp Pavillion dv5035 for 1050 Us$. I am intending to use it for downloading and editing of music and video as well as gaming like half-life 2. Below you'll see the specs. Please advise me what would be the best for me and which one offers the best quality for the price.

You would get better gaming ability with the Gateway though I think you can run Half-life 2 at lower settings on the HP. Gateway does not have the best reliability ratings. Personally, if I were you if you are not stuck on getting an AMD processor I would go for the HP DV4000 with the ATI x700 gpu. This will do all you need plus be better for gaming. You can order one directly from HP.com. Anyway, good luck with whatever you get.

The problem is that I live in Jamaica and don't have the luxury to get shipping over here. One of the reasons is the high import tax and GCT. For me it's better to fly to Miami and purchase one in a store. Is there any store that sells more laptops than Bestbuy?

I would recommend filling out the FAQ and reposting as you will get more and better recommendations based on your answers. That said, I think Best Buy may have the DV4000 but I could be wrong.

Well, the only way you can get the X700 in the HP is if you customize it through HPShopping.com - can't do that at Best Buy. They only have the pre-config'd models.
The MX7525 is an excellent performer, but falls a bit short when it comes to gaming performance because it has an X600 video card. Starting to show its age. But, it's the best you can get for $1,250 there.

Wow, you're a dead on match for the MX7525. With HL2/CS, the X600 won't have any problems at all. :)
The Athlon 64 Mobile 4000+ is currently the fastest you can get, blows away anything else at that price range.

So you don't think that the Hp would be able to handle it? And what about the durability difference between the 2? Is there a big difference in performance between the 2 or would the HP be sufficient especially with a nice price of 1050 Us$.
