Question:
Any of you familiar with LCD TV's?
Sorry, I know there is probably a better forum for this, but I don't belong to any and you guys seem to be up to date on tech..if you have a suggestion for a better forum, let me know :)
In the market for an LCD 32" TV and ive found these 2, the magnavox is about $1100, and the philips is about $1500. My question is, can any of you find anything obvious that makes these 2 sets such a difference in price? Thing I notice is contrast ratio and input options, but should this justify the price difference?

AVS Forums is a good source of information. They frown on discussing price.

Well, the Philips seems to be an overall better unit: contrast, viewing angle,... On top of that, it has better connectivity, PIP and, well, a better reputation. Whether that's worth 400$, that's another question.
Do you think you're ever going to need PIP?

I was always under the impression that Magnavox was Philips. I have an older TV that says 'Philips Magnavox.'
Either way, they are very reliable TVs. I would recommend them.

I think Magnavox is Phillips yes. I checked and both offer the same kind of input signal as well (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i). So yeah the Phillips has 2 HDMI connections while the Magnavox has none. For HDTV HDMI is 'better' (truly subjective) than Component. So that and the viewing angle / contrast / etc ....
There are suppose to be major price drops this spring with the new crop of Flat Panels and support for 1080ip sets. (there are already 1080p sets ) Might want to wait a few months.
Some really good sites / forms are :

Both TV's were reviewed well by users always a good sign.

My mom just bought one same size from rca? And that thing has such retarded interface... But than agin my mom only knows where the power button is so she don't care

Re: Any of you familiar with LCD TV's?
Just because it says Magnavox or Philips doesn't mean that's who actually put the LCD panel inside the TV. The Magnavox is decent, but the picture could be better. You can't beat that price though. A lot of Magnavox products have been coming out branded with Sylvania, Emerson, or Symphonic. Magnavox is just a little above those low multi-branded products, although it is becomming one.
I'd say your best bet is to stand infront of the Magnavox and Philips and see which one you like better. Then determine if the price is acceptable. The Philips will be a little more solidly built than the Magnavox, but other than that there's not much of a difference unless it's visible.
If you do get to see them, make sure you check to see how long the TV's have been out on display. LCD's are always really bright for the first month they're in operation. Then they tone down a little.
